My friend, Jeff Herring, says that, "Productivity requires Action. When you are exposed to a new strategy or learn a new skill, the best thing you can do is find a way to use it right away. Even if it is just one small step, immediate action sets you up for greater productivity." What does this mean for piano students? Why is this so important? Because, learning Piano is about mastering a series of skills. This means that the most important piano practice is always the practice "right after your _____." I'm sure any piano student can come to a rational conclusion and fill in this blank. Unfortunately, almost all students do not do so. They're natural thought process is to assume that because they went to their lesson on a particular day, practice on this day is not necessary. But, in fact, this is the most important practice of the week! Students who want greater productivity from their efforts should go right home from their lessons and practice immediately. This is like adding a special piano "glue" that will bind the lesson in the hands, mind and ear to make practice throughout the remainder of the week much easier and much, much more satisfying and productive.
Best wishes for your musical success!
